An unassuming beginning

Welcome  Sam's blog and I hope you enjoy your stay.

I would like to first extend my gratitude to all of those whom visited and spent some time in my humble world. To be honest, I have tried to revive blogging for at least 3 times now and each time less successful and the ones before. The main reason that struck me the most was the lack of content and inspiration to write. They say a life without purpose is a life not worth living right? So is a blog, I suppose I could just write whatever but then committing literary diarrhea would not do me any good and would just be a waste of your time. This blog is set up with a long term goal of documenting my personal growth as a person and mid-term goals to develop my photography, writing, and intrapersonal skills.

The resurgence of my blog has to be credited to a friend, Arif Johari aka AJ (Mr. Fashionable) during an opera outing. Being a negative Nancy as usual, I brushed off his anecdotes of successful bloggers as a lack of intelligence of the masses, but upon giving it more thought, it wasn't such a bad idea after all. So, the main content of this blog is of one that could simultaneously develop all my mid-term goals while contributing to my personal growth. I plan to have an intimate moment/interview with my close friends, and combining it with photography of their portraits.

Why you'd ask?

"I sometimes think that people’s hearts are like deep wells. Nobody knows what’s at the bottom. All you can do is imagine by what comes floating to the surface every once in a while."

Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (Haruki Murakami)

Count how many friends you have, and then count the number of them you really know. The more people walk pass my life, the more I think I do not know any of them. Some of them gave me pleasant surprises while others not so much. Back on track, while not knowing a lot about them, my life has undoubtedly been shaped by every one of them. I'd like to document them in writing as I know them and as the way they like themselves to be known. Combining with photography, I hope my readers would be able to feel a personal touch, and feel like they know my friends as well.

While this is not a photography blog, seeing pictures of them gives us an emotional attachment. These two things are complementary. A picture is worth a thousand words, but a thousand words do not paint the same picture. Through reading, feeling, and seeing is how I’d think to truly get to know a story. Hopefully, towards the end of the journey, we can learn a little bit more of the well that is known as the heart both our own and theirs.

Interviewing and photo shoots take time so these contents I'm afraid I will not able to provide regularly. However, I'd like to have discussions with you! I will post topics on books that I read (mostly Murakami), thoughts, and combining them with my opinions. They say arguing on the internet is useless, but I believe in online civilized discussion. I want to talk to you and break the stubborn shell that is my self. Even if you lurk, I hope you think about those topics and may we have a fruitful discussion when we meet in person! If you don't see your story here, that simple means a meeting is dying to happen! :)
